WHAT ARE ALPRs?
Automated License Plate Readers are a mass surveillance technology that photographs, reads, and stores the license plate of every vehicle that passes. The information is stored by a private company, ran through an AI algorithm, and provided back to thousands of law enforcement agencies without the need for a warrant.
HOW IT WORKS:
ALPRs photograph, and in some cases video, every passerby. Each vehicle, adult, child, animal; all captured if they want to be or not.
An AI algorithm scans the photo and enters identifying information (License plate, bumper sticker(s), vehicle damage, occupants) into a consolidated database.
The exact time and locations of each capture of vehicles is logged and compiled into a timeline of travel.
The data collected is uploaded to the cloud database and is available for any law enforcement that requests it.
Even with ’30-day deletion’ policies, data can be exported, shared, or flagged for indefinite retention.
Data on you and your goings is shared with any law enforcement agency without a warrant.
FlockNet has over 5,000 law enforcement agencies that participate.
All of this information is the key to knowing you and what you do. Tracking you at every step and ensuring you are obeying.
